The brief
A tall fireplace wall in a light living room needed weight and depth without the seams and cost of stone slabs.
What was done
Our master built the surface by hand, coat over coat, in a black mineral plaster with a split-marble relief, then sealed it for the heat zone around the firebox. One continuous surface from floor to ceiling, no joints, no grout.
The result
The wall reads like quarried stone in daylight and turns velvety at night. It is washable, and a scuff can be blended by the same hand that made it.
