A living room wall with a door that had to disappear: one panelled surface where the door reads as just another panel.

Completed by our master before M5 was founded (master's work, USA · in progress). The same hands now work in Miami.

The brief

A living room wall with a door that had to disappear: one panelled surface where the door reads as just another panel.

What was done

The panel layout was set out on the wall first, the door leaf finished flush with the same mineral plaster, and the whole wall troweled as one surface so nothing gives the door away.

The result

In progress at the time of these photos. Closed, the door is invisible; open, it is a plaster panel on hinges.

Questions about this work

Can a hidden door be plastered?

Yes. The door leaf and the wall get the same finish and the same panel layout, so the joint reads as a panel line, not a door.

How long does a feature wall take?

A wall like this takes about a week on site: the layout, the coats with drying between them and the final finish.

Can I have this in Miami?

Yes. A real sample of the finish reaches you within 48 hours, free, and a master comes to measure the wall.
